Situated in Yola, Adamawa State, the American University of Nigeria (AUN) is a representation of academic brilliance and innovation. Known as Africa’s first “Development University,” AUN was established in 2003 by former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The school gives students a liberal arts education in the true American tradition, enabling them to think critically, take risks, and make a lasting impression.

The Vision and Development of AUN

Initially called ABTI American University of Nigeria, AUN welcomed its first class of students in 2005. With more than 1,500 students enrolled and 93 faculty members, it has since developed into a worldwide institution. Students in Nigeria and beyond are still motivated by its dedication to sustainability, innovation, and development.

AUN’s programs were first accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2008, and they were subsequently re-accredited in 2013. Later, in 2012, the university introduced graduate programs, such as the Executive Master’s in Information Technology, which established AUN as a pioneer in the integration of technology and education.

Infrastructure and Academic Excellence

AUN now has state-of-the-art facilities like the School of Law, the School of Business and Entrepreneurship, and the Robert A. Pastor Library and E-Learning Center. With programs in engineering, arts and sciences, information technology, and health sciences, the university offers a comprehensive education.

From software engineering to entrepreneurship management, each department emphasizes practical skills to equip graduates to tackle today’s problems. The goals of ProCerts and the university are in line: empowering learners through accessible, practical, and innovative digital education.

AUN admissions

Students who fulfill certain requirements, such as SSCE results, JAMB or IJMB scores, and a personal essay outlining their goals, are eligible to enroll in AUN. Candidates must submit their diploma or A-Level results along with their prior transcripts in order to be admitted directly.
