The Vision and the Beginning
Benson Idahosa University (BIU) is a well-known private Christian college in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. The school was once called Christian Faith University (CFU), but it was later renamed to honor Archbishop Benson Andrew Idahosa, a Pentecostal leader whose teachings influenced millions. His faith and willpower led to the creation of a university based on Christian ideals and strong academics.
The current president, Rt. Rev. (Dr.) Faith Emmanuel Benson Idahosa, is carrying on the work of his father. He also serves as Bishop of CGMi Faith Arena and Co-ordinator of Next Generation Leadership at the Church of God Mission. BIU has become one of Nigeria’s most respected faith-based universities because to his leadership.
Growth, Accreditation, and Achievements
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given Benson Idahosa University (BIU) its stamp of approval. The university has been known for years for its prowess in both academics and sports. In fact, BIU is always one of the best private colleges in the Nigerian Private colleges Games, the Nigerian Universities Games, and the West African Universities Games.
“In 1978, God told me I was going to build a university to the glory of His majesty,” Archbishop Idahosa declared. At the time, neither the state or federal government could build universities in Nigeria. This made his goal a brave act of faith.
In 1993, the university started as Christian Faith University-Institute of Continuous Learning on the Ugbor Campus. It had two faculties: Basic Sciences and Management Sciences. It worked with the University of Benin and Edo State University (now Ambrose Alli University) to give out national diplomas.
Expansion and Faculties
It was formally named Benson Idahosa University by 1998. The 1999โ2000 school year saw the start of three new faculties: Basic and Applied Sciences, Social and Management Sciences, and Arts and Education. The NUC gave BIU its official operating license in 2002.
The institution grew again in 2015 when the Legacy Campus at Okha opened. The Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Engineering were the first to move to the new campus. Since then, a number of programs, including as Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), Law, and Mass Communication, have been fully accredited.
