The Adventist College of West Africa (ACWA) was the first name for Babcock University, which opened its doors in 1959. The school began with just seven students and was run out of Chief Olufemi Okulaja’s house.
It became the Adventist Seminary of West Africa (ASWA) in 1975, and on April 20, 1999, it became a university. Babcock has become one of Nigeria’s best schools since then. The Ben Carson School of Medicine graduated its first doctors in 2017, which was another big step forward for the university.
Babcock is still a part of the global Seventh-day Adventist education system, which is the second biggest Christian school network in the world.
