The University of Sussex is a research intensive university in Falmer, on the outskirts of Brighton in East Sussex. It was established by Royal Charter on 16 August 1961. Sussex was the first of seven new universities established in the UK after the Second World War.
Over the years, the university has developed a strong focus on teaching, research, global issues and positive change. Its campus is within the South Downs National Park, about four miles from central Brighton. The university has a single-site campus surrounded by green spaces.
The campus was designed by renowned architect Sir Basil Spence. It includes the Library, Meeting House and Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts. Students can study, socialise and access university facilities in one location.
