History of Bowen University, Iwo

Bowen University, Iwo, is a private Baptist Christian school in Osun State, Nigeria. Bowen was started by the Nigerian Baptist Convention on July 17, 2001, and it has since become one of the most regarded religious universities in the country. On November 4, 2002, the university opened its doors for business, admitting its first 506 students into a variety of faculties, such as Agriculture, Science, Science Education, and Social and Management Sciences.

Bowen University has come a long way since its little beginnings. The National Universities Commission (NUC) gave the Federal Government of Nigeria permission to set up and run it. Professor J.T. Okedara (Vice Chancellor) and Mr. E.A. Lawale (Registrar) led a Provisional Governing Council that laid the groundwork for academic achievement and moral purity.

Bowen started offering programs in Medicine (MBBS), Anatomy, and Physiology in 2009. Later in 2011, it grew even more by starting the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Law. Bowen now has more than 5,000 students and is still growing thanks to its Christian ideals and new ways of teaching. The university also started a radio station run by its Mass Communication Department in 2018 to show off its inventiveness and communication skills.
