How it started
In 1853, Ajayi Crowther University was founded as the CMS Training Institution in Abeokuta. It then passed through Lagos before relocating to Oyo in 1920. Prior to becoming a Grade II teachers’ college, it offered Divinity courses as St. Andrews College from 1910 to 1942. Later, in 1977, the government took control; by 1980, it was an NCE campus, and by 1985, it was a college of education. Namesake and mission
Named after Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther, the university honors his pioneering work as the first African Anglican bishop and translator of the Bible into Yoruba and other languages. The institution’s mission emphasizes education, leadership, and service.

The T.Y. Danjuma Library, which was founded in 2006 and moved in 2010, is notable for having 20,000 volumes and 50 journal titles in important subject areas. The JAMB/UTME cut-off is 160, and the tuition ranges from 600,000 to 700,000.
